Freedom at Last - Poetry - Lakeside Park

Freedom at Last

we were chained up, locked away, kept silent
for so many years
until the prison of the soul began to weaken
in just a few days
then bursting forth from bars of hatred
in just a moment
we tasted the power of ourselves unleashed
for a minute's pleasure
and flew to taste the carefree souls
for eternity
if you die tonight, don't look for a murderer
since it's just us

I found this while looking for something else. And I thought, "I wrote that? Holy cow...." So I checked the date on the file, and it was written just after the most stressful day of my life. (9 May 2001, 23:08 EDT)
