Pure Darkness - Poetry - Lakeside Park

Pure Darkness

      black
beyond the comfortable dark of a midnight room
beyond the subtle menace of the basement stairs

      black
              alive
      on the path ahead
              waiting
      to swallow me alive

      black
dares me to try and say no as it sends
   wispy tendrils to ensnare me

         i am running | i am still
away from that hell | waiting for its touch
that will take my only valuable | to take me into its dark caress
         intelligence | seduction
            my mind | hoping
         i can't lose | i will lose

How do you run from evil if you like it so much?
