Styrofoam Snow - Poetry - Lakeside Park

Styrofoam Snow

Mercury vapor lighting throws itself onto the new-fallen snow
But not with the pure silver glitter of moonlight
Or the warm pink of crystals caught in the headlights
Or the hundreds of dancing pastel hues of sunlight:
It lands with a solid plastic shine that erases the shadows
And shows me walking across a surreal world of styrofoam
Where the only spirits are made of plastic or poison (often both)
And where so many are desperate to be heard that they babble
Lost souls landed here with nowhere else but death to go
In a world where God means nothing because He doesn't sell anything
In a land where "Don't innovate, litigate!" is the rule
If I'm ever one of them, let me out

This started out trying to capture that one moment of the snow looking like the kind of light styrofoam that sparkles in the light, but it evolved on me to become a protest.
