At War - Poetry - Lakeside Park

At War

squares of concrete glitter
with shards of broken glass
some still held together by the Smirnoff label
resting by McDonalds debris
in the graveyard of bottlecaps

jetsam from the stream of humanity
another pile of ashes from someone's tray
lie forgotten under the wheels and heels
of those who pass but never meet
living in isolated networks

routine breaks
bringing death
they want war though they fight daily
against themselves
and hate it
